Cruise Price Drops and Re-Pricing
The fare fell after you booked. Now what?
Request a Cruise Reservation QuoteCruise fares move after you book. When they drop, you may be able to benefit — but only if you notice, and only if your fare and your line’s rules allow it. Terms vary by line.
How Re-Pricing Usually Works
Before final payment, many lines allow a booking to be re-priced to a lower available fare for the same cabin category, either as a reduced fare or as onboard credit. Some publish a formal policy — Royal Caribbean calls its version the Best Price Guarantee and notes that terms differ for refundable fares — while others handle it case by case. After final payment, options usually narrow sharply.
- The new fare usually must be for the same ship, date and category.
- Re-pricing may swap your original promotion for the new one; check you are not losing a valuable perk.
- Non-refundable deposit fares may be re-priced differently from refundable ones.
- Group and advisor-negotiated fares often follow their own rules.
How to Catch a Price Drop
- Check the fare for your cabin category every week or two until final payment.
- Watch the major sales periods; our sister site Wave Season gathers early-year promotions while they are live.
- Compare the total, including taxes and promotional perks, not just the headline fare.
- Ask your advisor to monitor the price; many do this routinely for clients.

When a Price Drop Is Not Worth Chasing
Sometimes the cheaper fare comes with fewer perks, a non-refundable deposit or a different cabin. If you would lose onboard credit or a drinks package worth more than the saving, keep what you have. Likewise, a lower fare in a different category is not a price drop; it is a different product. Current fares and discounts across lines are tracked on Cruising for Less.
What About After Final Payment?
Once the balance is paid, most lines will not reduce the fare, though a few may offer onboard credit in some circumstances. That is one reason to keep checking prices in the months before your payment date.
Keep a Record
Write down your fare, cabin category and any perks on the day you book, and save the confirmation. When you check prices later, compare like with like: the same cabin category, the same number of guests and the same inclusions. Screenshots of a lower fare, with the date and time, help when you ask for a re-price. If you booked through an advisor, send the screenshot to them; they can usually make the request for you.
Price drops are most common when a line launches a new sale or when a sailing is not filling as fast as expected. They are least common on holiday weeks and popular new ships.
